Hello,
my name is Joyce L. Williams and I love making music and teaching
children. As far as I can remember music has always been a part
of my life. As a child, I can fondly remember singing with my mother
as she played the piano. When I was 12 years old I had the privilege
of performing the lead role in opera, "Amahl and the Night
Visitors". It was this experience coupled with many others
that first led me into my love for music and performing.
I received the Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in
Music from Spelman College and the Master of Music degree in Voice
Performance from Boston University. I have taught on the elementary,
middle school, high school and college levels.
Having performed with the duo, "Joyce & Jacque" for
the past 12 years, I have had the opportunity to perform both locally
and nationally. We have been the opening acts for such performers
as Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Nina Simone, Sweet Honey in the
Rock, Shawn Colvin, the Pointer Sisters and others. We have performed
for children in elementary schools across Georgia with the organization,"Young
Audiences of Atlanta." We have also conducted
music workshops and residencies for teachers as well as students
across the southeast.
I receive great joy from teaching music and am continually amazed
at children's creative abilities. There is so much they are capable
of. It is my wish that I am the kind of teacher that inspires them
to be their best
creative selves. It is great to be here at the Neighborhood Charter
School.
