Sustainability Committee Projects

Waste Recycling

After a hiatus, the recycling project is back at NCS!  Recycling bins will be placed in each classroom and some common areas.  Students will be taught and encouraged to recycle any paper, plastic, etc. that can not be reused.  The project launched January 2009.

Zero-Waste Day

A program designed to teach and encourage the NCS community to reduce the use of disposable waste by endeavoring to eliminate waste from school lunches for a day.  Zero-Waste Day will occur on April 22, 2009, Earth Day.

Clean Air

An effort to register NCS with the Clean Air Campaign and encourage reduced emissions around the school.  In particular, this project will suggest creative ways to reduce emissions produced by idling cars.

Chicken Coop

The Sustainability Committee is working with APS on a Sustainability Strategic Plan to map out steps for increasing and teaching self-sustenance.  One element of the plan is to bring a chicken coop on campus to supply the school with fresh eggs.
