The Neighborhood Charter School believes that a meaningful and worthwhile learning environment can best be
nurtured with a fair and workable discipline code as its basis. The students, parents, staff and administration all share in the important responsibility for maintaining positive school discipline equally. Central to an effective school is a written code of student behavioral expectations, a guideline that identifies desired behaviors and makes clear the types of student behavior that are unacceptable. Clear in any behavior code should be the prescribed disciplinary responses associated with failure to conform to reasonable behavior expectations.
In the following document, individual misbehaviors have been assigned to levels of seriousness. The classroom
teacher deals with Level One misbehaviors, Level Two misbehaviors are referred to the principal for appropriate
action in consultation with the classroom teacher. Level three misbehaviors, after initial action by the principal,
may be referred to the school board or legal authorities. Zero-tolerance behaviors will be dealt with immediately
(as the plan describes). This discipline code represents a progressive plan in which repeated offenses are cause to
move misbehavior from one level to a more serious level. The disciplinary responses are selected from the options
identified for each level.
Note: This discipline continuum cannot cover all disciplinary situations which may arise, and, therefore is not
intended to be exhaustive. Moreover, modifications to the continuum will be made depending upon the facts of an
an individual case, at the discretion of the Principal.
