Brooke
McGhee grew up in the midwest and graduated from Indiana University
with a degree in social work. After working as an alcoholism counselor
for five years Brooke and her husband started having kids and she
decided to make a job change. The whole family moved to Atlanta
and shortly thereafter, Brooke began studying education at Mercer
University. Upon completion of the certification process, she began
teaching at Avondale Elementary School, where she has been for the
past five years. She spent two years teaching second grade and then
began Reading Recovery training at Georgia State.
Brooke
has spent the last three years as a certified Reading Recovery teacher,
teaching Reading to struggling readers in first, second and third
grades. She loved teaching Reading, but always missed having her
own class and knew that one day she would want to return to the
classroom. Her own children went to a Constructivist school in Decatur
and she is quite excited about having the opportunity to be a classroom
teacher in a school that embraces that philosophy of teaching.
