General Responsibilities

• Commit to learning and assisting teachers with implementing the school’s conservation- and ecology-based curriculum utilizing a constructivist learning theory and assist teachers with the implementation of such in the learning environment to support students’ achievement.
• Engage in appropriate continuous professional development.
• Assist with the daily operations and related responsibilities of assigned class(es).
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, community members and others to support and implement the vision and goals of the school.
• Work effectively with a diverse population.
• Participate in all necessary staff and school related meetings.
• Work flexible hours as needed.
• Handle other duties as assigned.

Specific Classroom Responsibilities

Associate Teachers of the Neighborhood Charter School are an integral part of the teaching- learning team of the school. To that end their specific classroom responsibilities are all encompassing.

The Associate Teachers need to have a good understanding of the constructivist learning theory, the curriculum of their assigned class, and the state Georgia Performance Standards (GPS). The appropriate formal and informal staff development will be offered so that the Associate Teachers have the opportunity to enhance their understanding of the components of the school’s program. This will allow the Associate Teachers to give input on the planning process and help set student goals, assist with the various program assessment tools, and serve as a team member in terms of instruction, classroom management, and administrative chores. This sort of relationship will give children the opportunity to have two adults involved in their learning opportunities.

The teachers of the Neighborhood Charter School welcome this sort of partnership and will work to build that teaming situation by making sure that the students understand the comprehensive role of the Associate Teacher, helping the teacher to further develop their skills.
