Veleta Greer

Hello! My name is Veleta Greer, and I am thrilled to be returning to the Neighborhood Charter School family for my third year! I graduated from Brenau University with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. In 1999 I began my teaching career in the DeKalb County School System with a great group of second graders. During my second year of teaching I started working on a Master’s Degree in Education with a Specialization in Elementary Reading and Literacy. I completed my work at Walden University in December of 2003. The following school year I accepted a position as a Reading Specialist where I worked with first, third, and fifth graders. It gives me great joy to bring the world of literature to children in all areas of learning.

I am originally from Georgia, just a little outside the city, and now live in Ormewood Park with my husband of four years, Matt. He works by day as a machinist at Asten Johnson, Inc. However, at heart he is a true musician. We love to get out and see live shows around town! Our days (and some nights!) are kept busy with our son, Dylan. He will be one in September. It has been an amazing year watching him grow. We also enjoy spending time with our dog, Zoe, and our cat, Remy.

When I am not working or spending time with family and friends, I enjoy anything crafty! I love making cards, knitting, jewelry making, and scrap booking. It is not unusual for me to begin learning a new craft. I also love to read, especially about people. It fascinates me to learn about others and how they deal with the complex situations we often find ourselves in as we go through life.

Mary Grinsfelder

Hello! My name is Mary Grinsfelder and I am thrilled to work as an associate teacher with Mrs. Greer this year. I believe teaching is "a work of heart," and I love working with children. Before joining the Neighborhood Charter School, I taught first grade for a traditional school in northwest Atlanta for two years. I studied constructivism and earned my teaching certificate through Agnes Scott College. I live in Grant Park with my Airedale terrier, Bella. I love this neighborhood! I moved to Atlanta from Austin, Texas, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with honors from the University of Texas. I am currently pursuing a Master of Urban Policy Studies at Georgia State University.

I am delighted to work with Ms. Greer, the third grade team, and all of our families!
