Board of Directors

The Governing Board of the Neighborhood Charter School

In addition to being a public school, the Neighborhood Charter School is also a legal non-profit organization (501(c)3). As such, it is governed by a governing board.  The NCS Governing Board is comprised of parents and community representatives. By Georgia law, the majority of the board members must be parents. The governing board’s primary role is to provide leadership for the school, establish school policies, and to facilitate and coordinate faculty, staff, parent/guardian, and student involvement in the identification and resolution of issues and concerns.

The board and school operate under the by-laws of the school. By-laws are the written procedures under which the school is organized. They further establish the rules for how the varying Neighborhood Charter School functions occur.

The Governing Board usually meets the third  Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm. The meetings will rotate between the Neighborhood Charter School and the Atlanta Charter Middle School locations.  These are open meetings and parents, staff, and community members are welcome to attend. Copies of the by-laws, minutes of all governing board meetings, and all board policies are available in the school media center and on this website.  This year as NCS and ACMS prepare to merge, the Board meetings are joint meetings between the two schools.
