(Note: Children who will be 5 on or before September 1, 2002 will be eligible for kindergarten at NCS.  Children who have successfully completed kindergarten at another school or who will be 6 on or before September 1, 2002 will be eligible for first grade at NCS.)

3)     Proof of immunization – Please bring a Georgia Certificate of Immunization for your child

In addition to these documents, you will be asked to sign the NCS parent/family contract during the registration process.

First Registration Period Process

After the first registration period, applications will be reviewed by the Principal and by Board members who do not have a child of NCS school age.  They will create a roster of students registered in the school and will determine which grades, if any, will go to a lottery.  If there are more applications than the designated number of slots in a particular grade, all applicants for that grade will go into a lottery.  On February 16, at 4:00pm at 688 Grant Street, parents can find out if their children are registered in the school and can observe the lottery (if a lottery is held).

Once any particular grade is filled, the lottery will continue and the remaining individuals will be placed on a waiting list in the order they are chosen in the lottery.  After this process, we will have available a list of students in the school and a list of those on the waiting list.  Slots already filled in the first registration period will be locked in.  The second and third registration periods are only to fill slots in grades not filled during the first period.

Parents/guardians of students in the school as of the first registration period will be required to attend the next community meeting (scheduled for March 5). Parents/guardians who do not attend this meeting, or do not call in advance to indicate that they will not be attending, will lose their child's slot in the school.

Second Registration Period Process

During the second registration period, individuals in the primary attendance zone (Grant Park, North Ormewood Park, and Ormewood Park) do not take precedence over those in the secondary attendance zone (the remaining neighborhoods of NPU-W, i.e., Benteen, Boulevard Heights, East Atlanta, McDonough-Guice, and Woodland Hills).  After the second registration period is over, the Principal and Board again will meet to review applications and determine if any lotteries will need to occur.  Slots filled during the first registration period will not be re-opened if a lottery occurs following the second registration period.  The lottery following the second registration period would only apply to those slots still open after the first registration period.  Once any particular grade is filled, the lottery will continue and the remaining individuals will be placed on a waiting list in the order their numbers are picked.  If there already is a waiting list for a particular grade following the first registration period, additional names can be added to the waiting list during the second registration period.

If there are any lotteries for the second registration period, they will be held on Tuesday, April 2 at 6:30pm at 688 Grant Street.  This is just before the April community meeting.  Parents/guardians of students registered in the school during the second registration period will be required to attend the April community meeting.  Parents/guardians who do not attend this meeting, or do not call in advance to indicate that they will not be attending, will lose their child's slot in the school.

Third Registration Period Process

The third registration period is open to all children in the Atlanta Public School System.  During the third registration period, individuals in the primary and secondary attendance zones do not take precedence over any other child.  After the third registration period is over, the Principal and the Board again will meet to review applications and determine if any lotteries will need to occur.  Slots filled during the first and second registration periods will not be re-opened if a lottery occurs following the third registration period.  The lottery following the third registration period would only apply to those slots still open after the first and second registration periods.  Once any particular grade is filled, the lottery will continue and the remaining individuals will be placed on a waiting list in the order their numbers are picked.  If there already is a waiting list for a particular grade following the first and second registration periods, additional names can be added during the third registration period.

If there are any lotteries for the third registration period, they will be held on Tuesday, May 7 at 6:30pm at 688 Grant Street.  This is just before the May community meeting.  Parents/guardians of students registered in the school during the third registration period will be required to attend the May community meeting.  Parents/guardians who do not attend this meeting, or do not call in advance to indicate that they will not be attending, will lose their child's slot in the school.

Important Note:  Siblings of students registered at NCS are guaranteed a place in the school.
